Vietnamese
The Vietnamese alphabet uses the Latin script. Although the Vietnamese language was first written using variant Chinese characters, in the mid-1500s, Catholic missionaries in Vietnam began using the Latin script to transcribe the Vietnamese language. These transcriptions led to the development of the present Vietnamese alphabet.
